Why the show exists
The Chancel is an Anglican teaching ministry that happens to publish a podcast. We exist to help everyday Christians read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest the Scriptures in the living tradition of Christ’s Church.
What We Hold
- We are all credal and worship in the historical Christian Tradition.
- There is an Anglican way of reading Scripture: canonical, creedal, liturgical, and read in the communion of the Church across time.
- Christ is encountered in every part of the Bible.
- The Old Testament is not optional.
- Scripture is best read in the company of the Church: the Daily Office, the lectionary, the Fathers, and the Prayer Book.
- Teaching should equip laity, readers, preachers, and everyone seeking to know Christ.

The Very Rev. David Bumsted is rector of St. John's Episcopal Church in Tulsa, a Florida native and former Look Mexico bassist who still loves his city's creative and brewing scene. He understands the parish in the old way: a place and a people to be a priest to.
Fr. Thom Crowe

Campus Missioner in Tulsa
Fr. Thom Crowe was ordained a deacon in the Orthodox Church before entering the Anglican tradition, and keeps one eye on the Church Fathers and the other on the parish newcomer. He serves as a campus missioner to Oral Roberts University and the University of Tulsa, works in tech marketing, and writes at angloorthodox.com on the wide catholic tradition Anglicans have inherited.
Matthew Delaney

Matthew Delaney is the lay member of the table, trained in biblical languages and ancient Near Eastern history. He keeps the other hosts honest on the text itself, and is usually the one who says 'well, actually, in the Hebrew...' before anyone else can stop him.
Fr. Paul Wheatley
Priest, New Testament Scholar & Host
Instructor of New Testament, Nashotah House Theological Seminary
Fr. Paul Wheatley teaches New Testament at Nashotah House and is finishing a Notre Dame doctorate on baptism as a governing metaphor in Mark. He trains readers to 'stare' at the Scriptures with patient attention, and off the page he home-brews, chases good coffee, and hikes.
